Bookended by time in Rio, we spent 3 days in Salvador, the capital of Bahia and the center of Afro-Brazilian culture.  We stayed in the historic center, a UNESCO heritage site because of the colorful Portuguese colonial architecture.  Our only warm-weather days during the “winter” trip, we enjoyed boating on the Bay of All Saints, sitting outside watching capoeira, and ambling around the former colonial capital of Brazil.
